Today we had a great trip bowling. A group of students from Blasket, Rathlin and Inisbofin all travelled to Mullingar. We met up with lots of other schools – St. Ita’s, St. Ultan’s and St. Brigid’s Mullingar, we were made feel very welcome.
All the students interacted well and sat with students from different schools. We practiced introducing ourselves, saying hello and shaking hands. We were all so well behaved and waited our turn to bowl.
A big thank you to Errol, our bus man, for driving us.
This week we have been talking about the birds we see in our gardens at home and also in our school biodiversity garden. We watched videos of birds searching for food. We decided to help the birds in our school garden – we found the empty feed nets outside. Back in the warm classroom we refilled the nets with peanuts and hung them back outside.
For Home Economics and to practice our ‘life skills’, we made mini quiches.
We made a shopping list and walked to Dunnes – practicing crossing the road safely. We followed shop signs and used our shopping lists to find the ingredients we needed – ham, cheese and eggs. We waited our turn at the till, exchanged money for our ingredients, waited for the receipt and change.
At Home economics we found the equipment we needed – grater, bowl, muffin tray, whisk and jug. Students all helped with making the mini quiches.
Students prepared the ingredients – cracking eggs into a jug and beating then grating the cheese into a bowl.
Students lined the muffin tray with slices of ham (counting as we worked). Carefully students poured in small amounts of the egg mix and sprinkled with cheese. Once cooked in the oven and cooled a bit students tasted the quiches and took some home to their families.
Welcome to Blasket!
Our teacher is Mrs Majella Harris.
