Blasket have been really enjoying attending Karate classes every Thursday with Sensei Mary Marcus. We walk down to the Redeemer resource centre and put on our karate suits.
We have been learning how to make a fist correctly and listen to instructions. Students take turns to hold the pad while their classmate practices their punch / Tzuki techniques.
One of our favourite activities is ‘chasing the light’ – which develops reflexes, turn taking and speed.
Sensei Mary holds special classes each Tuesday evening at the Redeemer centre if students would like to continue with Karate after our six week trial.
Last week, we made up a shopping list and walked to Dunnes to buy pancake mix and other ingredients. We checked our list and ticked off ingredients as we found them in the shop. We went to the checkout, talked/signed to the checkout person, exchanged money and packed our bag.
At first we practiced making pancakes with the ready made mix then made them from scratch.
To begin we located all the equipment we would need to make pancakes.
We sieved flour, measured and poured milk, cracked eggs, and mixed together.
Under careful supervision we poured the mix onto a frying pan, watched the mix bubble up and then flipped them over.
The best bit was spreading the chocolate spread onto the pancakes, rolling them up and eating them.
Everyone took a pancake home.
Blasket have been looking after /encouraging wild birds in our schools Biodiversity garden. We regularly check and then refill the seed nets hanging from a tree.
We take turns, measure and pour bird seed and peanuts.
If you look really carefully at the last few photos you will see some of the lovely little birds we have attracted to our garden.
In preparation for St Brigid’s day, Blasket worked with rushes to make a St Brigid's cross.
Teacher brought in rushes from home and told us stories about St. Brigid and how she helped spread the word of Jesus to the people of Ireland. Teacher demonstrated how to make a cross and then helped students to work together to make a cross.
We also visited St. Brigid’s shrine at Faughart. We took note of all the different symbols and stones we saw – checking them off our lists.
We also noticed a beautiful ‘sign of spring’ – a bunch of snowdrops.
Welcome to Blasket!
Our teacher is Mrs Majella Harris.
