This week we made buns. We carefully weighed out the flour and sieved it into the bowl. Everyone took turns ‘rubbing in’ the mixture. One egg was broken into the bowl. We used a jug to measure and pour the milk into the dry ingredients. We all used a wooden spoon to mix the ingredients together. Carefully we put the mixture into bun cases. As the buns cooked in the oven, we all helped with the clean up. There were dishes to wash and dry, surfaces to be wiped and the floor to be brushed. Students are invited to make buns at home over the weekend and send photos into school.

Everyone in Blasket had a wonderful day celebrating for St Patrick's day. During the week we made concertina style snakes in Art and for Home Economics we walked to Dunnes and bought different coloured jelly – green, white and orange. We all dressed up and joined the whole school in the church for a special blessing of the shamrocks from Fr Sean. We paraded back to school and joined in a wonderful afternoon of Irish music and dance. We danced to traditional music, played by students from DKIT and staff members. We enjoyed watching a solo by a great Irish dancer who is also the sister of one of our students – she was very proud. Over the last few weeks, Blasket have really enjoyed attending Karate classes with Sensei Mary Marcus in the Redeemer family resource centre.
After our final class each student was awarded with a certificate. Students can continue to benefit from Karate classes if they wish, as Sensei Marcus holds ‘all inclusive’ classes each Tuesday night at 7pm in the Redeemer centre. |
