Blasket welcomed the sunny weather by watering all the beautiful flowers at the front of the school. We used the ‘water butt’ in the front yard to fill watering cans, we then carefully made sure every flower had enough water for the next few days.
Every week we practice our life, social and money skills at the schools snack shack. We use Lamh and speech to request a snack and interact with the ‘shop’ keepers. We have to look at the different coins and select the one we need to pay for the snack. We reinforce this skill every week in the real world when we walk to Dunnes with our shopping lists to buy ingredients for our Home Economics.
Over the past few weeks Blasket have been practicing our life skills. Every week we walk to the bus stop and catch the local service bus. We choose a safe seat and enjoy the journey into town. We have visited different cafés in town. We sit together and look at the menu, we order a snack, practice our cutlery skills, chat and finally pay the bill. We walk carefully back to the bus station and practise crossing the road safely. These sessions are so great and help us develop so many of our life skills.
We have been so lucky to spend the last ten weeks travelling down to DKIT to take part in an active sports programme. The 3rd level students there were so great at encouraging us to take part in a very well planned structured programme of sports and games. We joined the L2LP group and all worked really well together.
Welcome to Blasket!
Our teacher is Mrs Majella Harris.
