We have enjoyed exploring ‘sound beams’, a touch-free device which uses sensor technology to translate body movement into music and sound. We hope to enjoy more of this next year.
We all had such a great day today, running, catching, balancing, jumping, hopping, kicking, cheering and throwing.
We have all enjoyed a wonderful, creative, fun, active and busy year in Blasket. We’ve learned so much and benefited from many different hands on experiences, trips out and real life experiences throughout the year. Here are just the last few.
In Blasket we have been practicing our H.E skills of peeling, chopping, blending and pouring and most importantly enjoying what we have made. Summer is a great time to enjoy a healthy fruit smoothie.
Blasket have been given the responsibility of looking after the school's window boxes.
Firstly we carried the boxes into the classroom and carefully removed the dead plants, shaking off the soil.
We travelled to a local nursery, O’Neills in Carlingford, and selected the most beautiful bedding plants.
Back in school we all helped to transplant the flowers into the window boxes, wishing well and planters for the front door. We carefully removed the pots, teased out the roots and planted the flowers. We will now maintain the flowers by watering regularly.
Over the past few weeks Blasket have been working on our ‘Herb’ project. We asked staff members to bring in empty food tins so that we could ‘recycle’ them. We decided to use them as containers for herbs.
As the weather was cold outside we used the Art room to work in. We carefully painted each tin in a bright vibrant colour – it took a few layers to get an even cover.
Thankfully the weather is getting warmer and we can work outside in Horticulture again. We filled our tins with soil and carefully placed the little herbs inside.
We will decorate each tin with a label and then practice our money skills when we sell the herb tins back to staff members.
We have really enjoyed working on this great ‘recycling’ project.
Blasket are beginning to learn about ‘life cycles’. We started with cress seeds. We used lovely little window green houses. We followed step by step instructions. Firstly we placed cotton wool into the pouches, carefully sprinkled in cress seeds and then watered the seeds. We stuck the green houses onto our classroom window so that the sun could help germinate the seeds. The cress grew quickly.
Welcome to Blasket!
Our teacher is Mrs Majella Harris.
