As part of our initiative Sherkin are volunteering at a local horse sanctuary ‘Holly’s Horse Haven’ in Omeath.
This is a great way to use our skills to help out a good cause in our community.
We travelled by bus and arrived at the sanctuary ready and willing to work. We all introduced ourselves to Joe, his helpers and of course the horses.
We watched as 4 of the horses were let out to paddock and then we all got stuck in.
After a short demonstration the students carefully used brushes, grapes and wheelbarrows to muck out the 4 stables. It was great physical work and the students really enjoyed it. We also helped to groom a lovely little pony called ‘Andy’, it was lovely to brush and pet the horse as he stood still and enjoyed the experience.
We also helped feed the horses with hay and prepared the grain for later.
We had such a wonderful experience and can’t wait till the weather gets warmer in the spring when we can return and help tend to the horses again.
Welcome to Blasket!
Our teacher is Mrs Majella Harris.
