For Home Economics and to practice our ‘life skills’, we made mini quiches. We made a shopping list and walked to Dunnes – practicing crossing the road safely. We followed shop signs and used our shopping lists to find the ingredients we needed – ham, cheese and eggs. We waited our turn at the till, exchanged money for our ingredients, waited for the receipt and change. At Home economics we found the equipment we needed – grater, bowl, muffin tray, whisk and jug. Students all helped with making the mini quiches. Students prepared the ingredients – cracking eggs into a jug and beating then grating the cheese into a bowl. Students lined the muffin tray with slices of ham (counting as we worked). Carefully students poured in small amounts of the egg mix and sprinkled with cheese. Once cooked in the oven and cooled a bit students tasted the quiches and took some home to their families.
